A slip has closed Cluny Road in Plimmerton

UPDATE Monday 3pm:

- All roads are now open, other than Cluny Road.

- Walkway on Whanga Crescent is closed as a large tree has fallen across it.

- Cleanup work is continuing around the city.

UPDATE Monday 9.30am:

Grays Rd - will remain closed for the day some minor slips and clearing required as well as flood water to subside.

Cluny Rd - remains closed

Beach Access road, Pukerua Bay - open with caution due to cracks in the road.

Pope St - minor slip being attended to

Rural roads - crews heading out to clean and clear minor slips,. debris and culverts

General clean up around the city, following up on jobs that were made safe yesterday

UPDATE 8PM:

Power has been restored in Plimmerton.

Grays Road remains closed

Cluny Road closed with traffic control in place overnight

SH58 closed with detour in place

Pukerua Bay Beach Road bund installed to divert water away from cracks that are appearing in the road edge

Airlie Road cleared and open

Paekakariki Hill Road open

UPDATE 3.30pm:

A new slip has closed part of SH58. Building inspectors are assessing a nearby property.

UPDATE 2.45pm:

Cluny Road:

- Geotech engineers have deemed the slip too unstable to clear while the weather remains bad. Ongoing monitoring and assessment is taking place.

- Some tree removal is underway

- Damaged cars have been towed clear of the slip

- The road is still closed and with contractors will remain on site

- Power is still out to 60 homes with an estimate of six hours before it is on.

Elsewhere in the city:

- Pukerua Beach Road open. Sucker truck booked for later today to help clear silt.

- Ocean Beach Road - small slip by public toilets, being cleared now - no road closure.

- Grays Road, closed by flooding. A tree is down and will be removed before it is reopened.

- Slip in Motuhara Road is blocking a driveway. Downer will clear this as soon as possible.

- Slip between Mo Street and James Street has been assessed

- Paekakariki Hill Road is open - no major issues

- Numerous trees down and slips across the city are being cleared

UPDATE 1.25pm:
(In addition to the road closures below)
- there's a lane closure southbound on SH59 (formerly SH1) at Mana Esplanade
- a lane closure northbound on SH59 (formerly SH1) at Whitford Brown due to water on the carriageway

UPDATE 12.30pm: please be aware that the slips are around the city remain unstable as the bad weather continues. Keeping everyone safe is a priority so please avoid the areas if at all possible. Take care on the roads and please stay safe.

UPDATE 10.45am:

Cluny Road slip, Plimmerton – Closed

- A slip has blocked the road and taken out power lines.

- Three properties have been evacuated

- Power has been made safe but is still out to about 60 homes. It could be out for up to ten hours.

- Water continues to pour down the slip face. Contractors are on site, ready to clear the slip when it’s safe to do so.

- We have building inspectors, parks and transport team members and other council staff on site checking on properties and people’s wellbeing.

- Geotech engineers are on site checking the slip.

- Wellington Electricity are cutting power lines so tree crews can move in.

- Wellington Water are on site.

All areas of the city have been impacted to varying degrees with surface flooding and slips. Downer are responding as best they can across the city, and region.

The after-hours call centre has had 16 weather related calls since 8am. If you have any issues please keep calling these in on 237 5089. If it’s an emergency call 111.

Please stay off the roads if possible and away from floodwaters. Stay safe everyone.

The wind and rain are forecast to ease this afternoon.
