Bathing water quality

Find out whether it's safe to swim at our beaches.

Water testing

We carry out regular testing and monitoring of the quality of the water at our beaches and in our harbour.

These results are collated by Greater Wellington Regional Council and are available on their website for viewing.

GWRC - Is it safe to swim?

Swimming after heavy rain

It's best not to swim at any beaches after a storm or heavy rain for two-three days. This gives the water time to settle and for any contaminants and silt to wash away.
