E-scooters in Porirua

Porirua City is trialling two e-scooter ride share schemes to offer another form of low-carbon transport around our city.

With e-scooters now available to hire throughout Porirua City, it’s easy to make more low-carbon transport choices.

E-scooters have become a popular way to make short trips, and many cities have introduced public e-scooter ride share services. They’re cheap to ride, environmentally friendly, fun to use, and can provide health benefits.

Under the trial, and subject to demand, there will be up to 400 e-scooters available to use, with e-scooter operators Beam and Flamingo offering 200 e-scooters each. This number may change depending on demand for the service.

The e-scooters are hireable and can be locked and unlocked via apps.

Drop Zones

When you’re finished using an e-scooter, you’re free to safely park it anywhere so long as it is not a restricted area. There will also be ‘Drop Zones’ dotted around the city centre, identified with large stickers on the ground.

Users who park an e-scooter in a drop zone will be rewarded with incentives from the e-scooter operator. This is a great way to save money while ensuring e-scooters are more easily accessible for others to use.
