We have a programme of planting trees as we want to increase our canopy cover.
During the early stages of tree growth, we carry out multiple site visits to check on the development, feed, water, and place mulch around the base of the tree. Once they're established, they are added into our street tree pruning programme.
We currently chose the public trees based on suitability for the individual site.
Our contractors routinely monitor tree conditions in the city and prune them when necessary. For example, if they obstruct:
We do not prune trees that block views or cast shade.
Council only remove public trees that are dead, dying, or dangerous to people or property. Trees are not removed:
Council assesses large trees in public areas every three years, and we have our annual work programme.
