Earthquake prone buildings policy

Have your say! Consultation on the Earthquake Prone Buildings Policy 2019 has begun.

This consultation is in accordance with Section 133AF of the Building Act 2004, which requires the Council to use the Special Consultative Procedure in Section 83 of the Local Government Act 2002 to confirm high traffic routes and emergency routes in the city.

We are seeking feedback to determine these other types of priority buildings and discuss the following criteria:

• If there is reasonable prospect of any thoroughfare in the city as having unreinforced masonry elements located on potentially high pedestrian or traffic routes.
• If there is reasonable prospect of an emergency route with at least one building on that route that, if it collapsed, would impede the route

The closing date for submissions is Wednesday 31 July 2019. For those who wish to speak in support of their submission, hearings will be held on 22 August 2019.
