Proposed Trade Waste Bylaw 2021

We'd like to hear your thoughts on trade waste in Porirua.

The Proposal

We’re reviewing our General Bylaw 1991 Part 20 - Trade Waste and intend to replace it with a new stand-alone bylaw.

The proposed Bylaw will better manage and control the negative effects of trade waste on the environment, people and wastewater treatment plant. Updating our Trade Waste Bylaw will enable us to:

  • Ensure the health of our harbour, waterways and environment are not further compromised.
  • Allow for cost recovery of the additional load on the wastewater network and treatment plant
  • Set effective control mechanisms for the discharge of trade waste
  • Meet best practice standards and
  • Regional consistency

We’d love your feedback on the Proposed Trade Waste Bylaw to assist our Council in their decision-making. The statement of proposal explains the proposed changes and how you can give us feedback.
