Due to Covid-19 the consultation on our Signs Bylaw was placed on hold. As we are now at Covid-19 Alert Level 2, we are resuming our consultation and have extended it for a further 2 weeks, from Monday 25 May to Sunday 7 June 2020
Porirua City Council is reviewing the General Bylaw and proposing a new bylaw – the Signs Bylaw 2020. We aim to manage signs within our City so they do not impact on safety, cause a nuisance or have a negative impact on how our City looks.
We have added new definitions while others have been reviewed or updated. For example, we have added “Temporary Signs” and “Roadside Advertising” to accommodate election advertising located within road boundaries and located on private property near intersections. We have also amended the definition of “Free standing signage” by reducing the height limit from 6m to 4m.
We’ve provided clarity over rules and how the bylaw is applied. For example, There were some rules that were potentially confusing and difficult to enforce. We believe that simple rules make compliance easier to achieve, so the proposed bylaw seeks to provide clarity over:
We
have up dated the bylaw by
adding signs as a permitted activity in public places provided it complies with
bylaw requirements.
We have provided transitional provisions to enable existing permissions to continue where there have been no issues to avoid unnecessary disruption to our customers.
We have added new provisions for signs and smokefree public places.
The Council is keen to know what people think about the proposed Signs Bylaw. We have extended the time for making submissions for a further 2 weeks from Monday 25 May to Sunday 7 June 2020. All submissions are now due to Council by 5pm 7 June 2020”
