We'd like to hear your thoughts on proposed amendments to the Significance and Engagement Policy
We are proposing to update the current Significance and Engagement Policy to reflect changes in legislation and partnership arrangements with Council.
The current Significance and Engagement Policy was last updated after public consultation at the end of 2017. Since then, there has been the Local Government (Community Well-being) Amendment Act 2019 and we also wanted the policy to reflect Councils partnership with Ngāti Toa.
The proposal is to update the policy to reflect the following:
to integrate requirements from amendments to the Local Government (Community Well-being) Amendment Act 2019 to include the four wellbeing’s the definition of “significance,” Schedule 1 and Schedule 4 under the Community Interest Significance Criteria
that Council will consider any COVID-19 related legislation, should Parliament pass further measures that change the Special Consultative Procedure
to acknowledge our partnership with Ngāti Toa when we consider Maori Interests in Schedule 4.
to better reflect the requirements of the Local Government Act 2002 when making decisions (e.g. taking into account those affected by or having an interest in the decision or matter)
to update the net cost criteria thresholds in Schedule 4 to reflect changing asset values.
