Elections

Porirua City's 10 councillors and Mayor are elected by residents every 3 years. Our current council was elected in October 2019. The next elections will be on 8 October 2022.

2016 elections

The Inaugural Council meeting, where the Mayor and Councillors made their official declaration and oath of office, was held on Wednesday 26 October 2016.

Electoral system

  • Elections for all local authorities (councils) throughout New Zealand are held every three years and are conducted by postal vote.
  • Porirua City uses the Single Transferable Vote system (STV). On your ballot, you'll be asked to rank the candidates in your preferred order.
