Dispose of rubbish responsibly

Put your household rubbish and recycling at the kerb by 8am on the right week, and we will pick it up, or take reusable items to Trash Palace for recycling. You can also take your rubbish to the Spicer Landfill tip or the recycling stations at the landfill.

Computers, batteries, solvent-based paints, some older light fittings, oils, herbicides, insecticides and other chemicals can damage people’s health and the environment if not properly disposed of. Contact us on (04) 237 5089 to find out how to dispose of a hazardous substance, including asbestos.

Litter Infringement Policy

Our Litter Infringement Policy became effective on 11 December, 2019.   The purpose of the policy is to keep Porirua tidy and free from illegal dumping.  The policy enables Council officers to issue infringement notices between $100 and $400, depending on the type and amount of litter.

Paekākāriki Hill Rubbish Clean-up

Footage taken September 2020, of the complex clean-up at Paekākāriki Hill Rd, removing a substantial pile of rubbish dumped down a steep bank.

The operation was carried out by Porirua City Council contractors Downer NZ, using abseilers, skips and specialised trucks and lifting equipment. This cost ratepayers thousands of dollars and if the offenders of this callous and calculated dumping are identified, they will be prosecuted.
